Winter Concert-Date Change

We are hosting our Winter Concert on December 11th this year. We had arranged for it the next week originally, but unfortunately was not able to access the District Stage on that date.

Traditionally, we do two performances-one during the day and one in the evening. Specific times will be sent out soon!

Cold Weather is HERE

Please send your child(ren) with a full set of extra clothes (top, bottoms, underwear, and socks) as we head into the rainy/ice/snow season. Children in grades K-3 are expected to wear their winter jackets and outdoor footwear outside. Students in grades 4-6 are strongly encouraged to wear their winter jackets and boots while outside.

Possible School Closure Procedures-due to Weather

Our district website has a detailed list of where school closures are posted and why. Please access this info here District School Closure Weather Info Page However, you can usually find a quick update via Twitter or the school district website by 6am each day. Once I receive the decision, I too will send out a Hatzic Community email to our families IF the school will be closed. No email from the principal, usually means we are open!

From the website: Decisions about school closures and bus route changes due to severe weather are made early in the morning, based on the most up-to-date conditions. The Superintendent of Schools has authority, on behalf of the Board, to temporarily close a school or schools. This decision is made in consultation with management and supervisory staff who have checked first-hand on the driving conditions, walking/sidewalk conditions, and general condition of buildings and accessibility to sites. Several factors go into a school closure decision, including student and staff safety, the conditions of roads near schools, school grounds, school bus routes, and whether facilities are fully operational.

Snow Removal

Snow removal is completed on a priority basis. The first section to have snow removal at Hatzic Elementary is the sidewalk in front of our school and the main entrance walkway, the primary entrance, and the library entrance in the back. If time and staffing permit, the next section to be cleared will be the walkway from the road to the side area (heading to the playground). The final section, if time and staffing allow, will be the paved areas along the back of the school and the paved area from the front sidewalk into the primary paved areas.
