Library Programs

"Children are made readers on the laps of their parents." ~ Emilie Buchwald

Ready, Set, Learn and Books for Bedtime Background

This program was originally started by Tracy Quinsey, a Mission teacher, and was called Books for Bedtime. The program was aimed at future kindergarten students and their parents. The importance of reading to your preschooler was emphasized to parents while the preschooler engaged in literacy activities and story time in the school library. The program quickly spread to all elementary schools in Mission. A few years ago, the provincial government came up with an early literacy initiative and developed the Ready, Set, Learn program that is carried out by the elementary schools. Since then, most Mission schools have merged the two programs into what it looks like today.

Hatzic Elementary's Books for Bedtime and Ready, Set, LearnBooks for Bedtime

The program is held twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. The program strives to promote early literacy to families and provide families with the knowledge and resources to help their preschoolers be ready for kindergarten. Dates for this year are October 28 and February 17.
